Position Description
The Department of Microbiology & Immunology seeks a Lab Technician (Technician B) with a background in molecular biology and tissue culture to assist the Principal Investigator of a dynamic, publication-driven research lab that studies malaria.
Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with the daily activities of a research group focused on Plasmodium falciparum parasite biology with a particular emphasis on understanding the molecular basis of drug resistance in malaria, drug discovery research, and the role of genes in malaria pathogenesis
Conducting P. falciparum culture work, including maintenance of parasites, drug assays, generation of drug-resistant parasites, and parasite cloning, under supervision
Assisting with general lab management including maintaining adequate supplies of reagents, national/international shipping and contact with vendors
Analyzing and preparing data for inclusion in reports and publications
Position Requirements
Bachelors degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience
Coursework in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics
Research experience and technical proficiency in cell culture a plus
Time Commitment: Full-time, with a preferred commitment of 2 to 3 years
