Full-time, Paid, Research Technician, Cell Biology

Position Description:
The Schwartz Lab is looking for a student to work as a Research Technician. The Schwartz lab focuses on building models of human liver disease in vitro. The lab uses stem cell biology and incorporates engineering techniques to better understand human liver disease with the goal to improve clinical therapy.
Responsibilities Include:
Cell culture and differentiation of stem cells into several cell lineages
Cell culture of primary cells and cell lines
Rodent hepatocyte isolation and culture
Performing DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and gene expression analysis including quantitative PCR
Isolating cells and performing FACS analyses and flow sorting
Performing protein analysis including Western blot analysis and ELISA
Performing cell imaging techniques including immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry
Genetic engineering of plasmids, bacterial transformation, additional mammalian cell culture procedures, and transfection
Performing high throughput screen
Validation and biological characterization of lead hits
Designing and performing protocols for particular research projects
Maintaining accurate and details records of all laboratory experiments in a neat and proper manner
Maintaining laboratory, inventory, facilities, equipment, and supplies
Ensuring laboratory is in compliance with safety and environmental regulations
Designing experiments and carrying them out in a semi-independent manner
Attending meetings and training seminars in other collaborating laboratories with projects of mutual interest
Participating in weekly scientific meetings and journal clubs
Participating in the training and orientation of new investigators, research fellows, residence and technical staff
Performing other related duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and related disciplines
Willingness to be a team player and work in an exciting and dynamic environment
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include weekends
Willingness to work with biologic materials from human and mouse subjects
Effective written and oral communication skills a plus
One year or more of related full-time work experience a plus
Time Commitment: Full-time (with a minimum commitment of two years)
