Full-time, Paid, Laboratory Research Technician, Precision Immunology
Organization: Miriam Merad Lab/Precision Immunology Institute at Mount Sinai (PrIISM)
Position Description The Merad Lab is seeking a student to work as a research technician in the area of lung cancer immunology. The laboratory technician will study Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells, generate viral vectors to edit cells in vivo and induce tumors, and apply state-of-the-art single cell sequencing and mass cytometry to dissect the tumor microenvironment.
Responsibilities include:
Assisiting post-doctoral fellows with experiment in molecular biology, immunology, tumor models, mass cytometry, and cellullar engineering
Working with cell culture/seperation methods; electrohretic separations: assays (e.g. ELISA); recombinant DNA methods (CRISPR/CAS9, electroporation), cell culture, and flow cytometry; or other specialized science techniques depending on the direction of inquiry
Participating/presenting work in laboratory meetings and reading literature applicable to the research area
Helping with the maintenance and organization of lab mouse strains, including genotyping
Preparing laboratory equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays and other supplies
Being involved in humane animal handling procedures including injection of mice, collecting/harvesting of tissues and fluids, and animal autopsies
Performing necessary analysis and calculations, recording data and writing reports on research findings
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in life sciences, with courses in molecular and cell biology
1 - 3 years of experience in a life sciences laboratory
Actively seek to understand the science underlying experiments
Generally experienced in molecular biology (PCR, DNA and RNA isolation, cloning), mammalian cell culture, and handling mice (breeding, weaning and maintaining lines, tail DNA prep)
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to learn complex tasks with general instruction
